Mapping invasive mosquitoes in Europe
In recent years, several vector-borne disease outbreaks have occurred in Europe, along with an increased establishment and spread of invasive mosquitoes.

VectorNet is a joint initiative of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) that supports the collection of data on vectors and pathogens in vectors, related to both animal and human health, with the aim to improve the preparedness and response for vector-borne diseases in the European Union.
ECDC and EFSA maintain a common database on the presence and distribution of vectors and pathogens in Europe and the Mediterranean basin, supported by a network of experts and organisations from the medical and veterinary domains.
Based on data from the VectorNet project, distribution maps of invasive mosquitoes in Europe at ‘regional’ administrative level (NUTS3) have been developed. The maps show the current known distribution of each of the following mosquito species: Aedes aegypti (yellow fever mosquito), Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito), Aedes japonicas, Aedes atropalpus and Aedes koreicus. A map of the current known mosquitoes surveillance activities in Europe is also available.
