EASIN - European Alien Species Information Network
Biological invasion and Island Biology 2016 Conference at Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal, 18-22 July 2016
Islands cover only about 3% of the world’s surface but withstand a disproportional amount of biodiversity, including many endemic species. One third of the world’s conservation hotspots are islands, and 7 of the 10 coral reef hotspots surround islands. Invasive Alien Species are among the primary threats to biodiversity on islands.

Island Biology 2016 (http://www.islandbiology2016.uac.pt/) brought together the expertise of a wide spectrum of research fields and accommodated in-depth discussions on topical areas of Island Biology. The aim was to provide advances in island biology research, guidelines for future developments, and contribute to inform decision-makers concerning effective conservation planning strategies in island ecosystems.
The European Alien Species Information Network (EASIN) supporting early warning and rapid response of Invasive Alien Species was presented at a special event on biodiversity and biological invasion on islands, which was co-organized by the European Project Cost Action TD1209: "Alien species: linking information across a European Network (Alien Challenge)".
